Entrance Hall The first room visitors to Kingsgate see, the entrance hall is a more austere space than much of the house. Pointed stone arches and dark wood adorn the narrow passageway which leads into the house. A few muted paintings and marble statues rest on dark wooden furnishings while a rich scarlet rug runs all the way down the hall. Heavy doors line the walls but there is a feeling of seclusion when they are shut - be wary, however, for eavesdroppers have ample places to hide. |

Saloon The Saloon at Kingsgate is an exquisitely opulent square room of royal blue, scarlet and gold, the gilded panels on the ceiling matching the intricate wall tapestries ad gilt-edged furniture. The room, specifically designed to accommodate large gatherings, contains some of the family's finest potraiture and a huge marble fireplace. Hundreds of candles are on hand to light the room in a warming evening glow and a grand piano stands in the corner. |

Drawing Room The Kingsgate drawing room is a light, tastefully decorated room with white and gold wall panelling and mirrors hanging on either end. There are large, impressive paintings with gilt frames and a glittering crystal chandelier hanging in the centre of the room. A wide fireplace casts a warm glow in winter nights and is surrounded by comfortable, inviting chaises which match the room's curtains. Until recently Lady Carmarthen liked to take tea with her daughters in the drawing room, while any visitors tend to be await reception here. |

Library The library is a much loved room by several members of the Penrose family, though Lord Carmarthen generally insists upon its being left to him alone. The walls are covered with aged Spanish leather panels decorated with gold and the ceiling-high shelves house row upon row of beautiful leather bound gilt-edged books. Lord Carmarthen's great writing-desk occupies one corner of the room while large, comfortable chairs surround a low table facing a small fireplace. This seating area is often used for private conversations. |

Dining Room The main dining room of the house has rich red wall coverings and a polished wooden floor. The long table with its pristine white cloth and gleaming silverware is the domain of the butler and his footmen. A small fireplace is built into one wall while the others display elegant portraits and mirrors. The table is able to sit twenty comfortably, though the Penroses have been known to host much larger dinners. Service in the dining room is immaculate, the staff slipping in and out via a disguised door to the service quarters. |

Bedrooms The house is built with two stone balconies overlooking salons on the ground floor located on either side of the central saloon. Most of the occupied bedrooms located somewhere along one of these balconies. The family occupy some of the finest rooms in the house, excepting the very best which remain reserved for the most important of guests. More typical guests are placed in the perfectly beautiful standard guest rooms in one of the wings. The service staff maintain immaculate order in the upstairs bedrooms and assist their inhabitants discreetly and efficiently. |

Service Quarters The household staff at Kingsgate occupy the deeper rooms of the house accessible via service staircases and passages concealed from view. The kitchens and servants' dormitories are simple but clean and well-kept rooms properly equipped for decent living conditions at Lady Carmarthen's behest. The butler and head housekeeper at Kingsgate preside over all affairs in the service corridors and achieve almost the same respect there as the Earl and Countess do upstairs. Only occasionally do members of the family venture downstairs, and it is cause enough for stir. |

in the grounds Kingsgate is an extensive estate with many beautifully kept lawns and gardens which provide pleasant walks for visitors and the family. The wooded area is used to accommodate mounted hunts and Lord Carmarthen's shooting parties. If you follow the various paths far enough, several small lakes and ponds exist on the grounds, and eventually you would reach Kingsgate Village. |

Houses & Streets The village has many modest residences for the various people who work around Kingsgate. The household staff board in the house, but external workers like gardeners and stable-workers will live off grounds, and of course all the village workers inhabit the small rows of houses on the pretty cobbled streets. |

Horsehead Inn The inn is a small business offering alcoholic beverages with very few scruples. There are also rooms available for rent, though they are certainly not going to be full of aristocratic luxury, but it serves well enough as emergency accommodation. |

Doctor's Practice A rather fine building well-equipped as a medical practice houses the local doctor, a man well known to the family and an important member of society since he is the first port of call for any medical problems in Kingsgate. |

London It is not uncommon for Lord Carmarthen to have to spend time in London on business, and many of their friends and relatives keep townhouses there. The ladies of the house also travel to London on occasion for social events and other such things, with it being a favoured haunt of Lady Katherine's. |

Other Secondary homes are kept, schools are attended, friends are visited. All of these may lie a long journey from Kingsgate, or perhaps just around the corner. Fortunately, carriages and cars these days make these trips quick and easy. |

Correspondence Letters are still the favoured manner of long-distance personal correspondence. Though they may take some time to arrive, it is still a convenient means of inviting and updating friends and acquaintances. The new invention of the telephone is becoming more widespread but Kingsgate is not yet 'on the phone'. |
