• Be kind to one each other. Be as patient and gentle with idiots as you can possibly stand, and try not to step on too many toes. [liststyle]a[/liststyle]
  
  
• Be active. Inform us of expected absences or your characters, and potentially your account, may eventually be deleted, especially if you hold important positions which will be replaced. If you later return wanting your characters back, we will try to accommodate but some may have been adopted or replaced.
  
  
• Make just one account. Multiple characters may be used under one account name, so there's no need for more. Multiples will be deleted.
  
  
• Use the Cbox sensibly. Don't be rude, annoying or inflammatory. Also try not to exclude anyone from conversation where possible. Be nice to guests.
  
  
• Please put a link to your character log in your signature to speed things up for other roleplayers wanting to check facts. It also helps if your character log is linked up to your character bios too.
  
  
• Don't use over-large images which stretch the board. Also don't use hideously gaudy colours and varying shades of vomit yellow in posts. Ugh.
  
  
• Don't harass staff members. However, always feel free to contact them for genuine concerns, requests or friendly conversation :]
  
  
• No spamming or inappropriate content anywhere. Keep it all in line with Proboards TOS. Just use common sense and be civil.

character rules

• Currently you can make as many characters as you like, but do keep them active, or they may be deleted. Create away![liststyle]a[/liststyle]
  
  
• Use the provided forms to make your character, though you're free to customise it (as long as it remains legible).
  
  
• Try not to only go for aristocratic characters and look out for what the site needs to be balanced. Servants are great to play too!
  
  
• You can make upper class characters who live in houses that aren't Kingsgate, but remember primary interaction takes place there. However, if full family units are created, they may be granted their own roleplay boards for their house (and by that I mean with at least six player-owned characters to live in the house including servants).
  
  
• We don't have an enforced faceclaim/play-by system. This doesn't mean we don't use photos, but there's no official list of real names attached to characters. However, don't deliberately use a picture of someone you know someone else has already used. That's silly. Not to mention unimaginative. Also, I'd rather not have dozens of real Downton Abbey characters wandering around - try to avoid cliché character images!
  
  
• If you see a character up for adoption, by all means create a bio for that character and take over their role in their community. This does not count to your character totals! Check the adoption board for more info.

• All usual rules apply; ie no GMing, powerplaying, using unaccepted characters, massive site-changing events without permission... etc. Common sense. [liststyle]a[/liststyle]
  
  
• Past tense third person roleplaying only, please. If you don't know and can't find out what that is on your own you probably shouldn't be here.
  
  
• Be literate. This means quality posts. There is no minimum word requirement for posts, but they should always be well-written and if you're constantly posting one-liners, I may hunt you down.
  
  
• All roleplay events must be on a magnitude in line with Proboards TOS (romance, crime, language etc).
  
  
• Be courteous. Don't barge into private threads or leave someone behind while they're offline. Tag your threads with specific characters if you don't want other people to come in. Mark them as open if you do.
  
  
• You can post multiple threads in multiple places with a character, but events must occur within the site's current roleplay week.
  
  
• Keep posts as historically accurate for England in 1906 as you can. So don't include anachronistic items, activities or turns of phrase. Meaning Lady Frances will not be trundling down to the village on her Segway listening to One Direction on her iPod and chowing down on a Big Mac.
